Periodic Table Quiz

How well do you know the periodic table of elements? Our interactive chemistry quiz challenges you in three different ways. Whether you're a student preparing for an exam, a teacher looking for classroom activities, or a science enthusiast who loves trivia, this game offers a fun way to master all 118 elements.

In Find on Table mode, you're given an element name and must click its correct position on the interactive periodic table. The table is rendered with an 18-column CSS grid, matching the standard IUPAC layout. Each element is color-coded by category: alkali metals, alkaline earth metals, transition metals, lanthanides, actinides, post-transition metals, metalloids, nonmetals, halogens, and noble gases. Hover over cells to see symbols and atomic numbers.

In Symbol from Number mode, you see an atomic number and must type the correct element symbol. For example, "79" should be answered with "Au" for gold. In Name from Symbol mode, you see a symbol like "Fe" and must type the full element name - "Iron". Answers are matched flexibly: case doesn't matter, and minor spelling variations are accepted. Each round has 20 questions, with score, streak multiplier, and personal best tracking.

The periodic table organizes elements by atomic number and electron configuration. Rows are periods, columns are groups. Alkali metals (group 1) are highly reactive; noble gases (group 18) are stable and unreactive. Transition metals fill the d-block; lanthanides and actinides fill the f-block. Understanding this structure helps predict chemical behavior and is essential for chemistry, physics, and materials science. Dmitri Mendeleev's 1869 table predicted undiscovered elements; today we know all 118, from hydrogen (1) to oganesson (118).

Scoring rewards accuracy and consistency. Correct answers earn base points; consecutive correct answers build a streak multiplier that boosts your score. Miss one and the streak resets. Your personal best is saved locally in your browser, so you can track progress over time. The game uses crypto.getRandomValues() for fair, unpredictable question selection - no two rounds are alike.

Sound effects can be toggled on or off. No sign-up required - just pick a mode, hit Start, and begin. Perfect for a quick study session, a classroom review, or a casual chemistry challenge. The periodic table is one of the most important tools in science, organizing matter by fundamental properties. From hydrogen to oganesson, every element has a story.
