How to Play Euchre Online
Euchre is a fast-paced trick-taking card game for four players in partnerships. Using only 24 cards (9 through Ace), each round is just 5 tricks - making games quick, exciting, and perfect for competitive play. Euchre is the most popular card game in the American Midwest and parts of Canada.
The Rules
Deal 5 cards to each player. Flip one card face-up - this proposes the trump suit. Going clockwise from the dealer's left, each player can "order up" (accept) or "pass." If ordered up, the dealer picks up the face-up card and discards one. If all pass, a second round lets players name any other suit as trump.
Bowers: The Jack of trump (Right Bower) is the highest card. The Jack of the same-color suit (Left Bower) is the second highest. Card rank in trump: Right Bower > Left Bower > A > K > Q > 10 > 9.
Play 5 tricks. Follow suit if possible. Highest trump wins, otherwise highest of the led suit. The team that called trump must take 3+ tricks to score.
Scoring
- Making team takes 3-4 tricks: 1 point
- Making team takes all 5 tricks (march): 2 points
- Defending team takes 3+ tricks (euchre): 2 points to defenders
- Going alone and taking all 5: 4 points
First team to 10 points wins.
Strategy
- Count bowers. If you hold both bowers, consider going alone.
- Lead trump to pull out opponents' trump cards early.
- Don't call trump on weak hands. Getting euchred gives opponents 2 free points.
